Coral peas (Hardenbergia violacea) are among the exquisite number of blue flowering climbing plants - and that under glass already in the middle of winter in January and February. If the coral pea is overwintered in classic winter quarters, the pile shifts to the spring and early summer months. In both cases, the curls with long clusters of blue to purple butterfly blossoms that are widespread along the coasts of Eastern Australia and Tasmania inspire. Alternatively, the coral pea is used as a traffic light plant with widely drooping trails or as a vigorous ground cover. The evergreen Australians can tolerate light shade as well as full sun with constant soil moisture. The tender, evergreen shoots grow moderately and hardly require any care or pruning.
