In 2009, the fennel, which belongs to the family of the Umbelliferae, promoted to the medicinal plant of the year. Meanwhile, there are many new bulletproof varieties, which also the hobby gardener can grow the delicious and healthy fennel tubers without much effort. Most are known only the vegetable fennel, but there are also varieties of spice fennel to wild fennel. Both form smaller tubers and these are a lot more aromatic and are accompanied by bitter substances.

A sowing directly in the field can be done in rows only from May and June, as previously the risk of night frosts is too large.
