If you look closely at the Tibouchina, it is not surprising how this ornamental plant got its nickname “Princess Flower”: the majestic blue or purple flowers can reach a diameter of 12 cm and bloom continuously for up to four days. In the midst of these impressive flowers, small hooks are formed that are reminiscent of spider legs, which is why the ornamental plant is also popularly called "spider flower". The princess flower, also known as the “violet tree”, is not one of the easiest-to-care for container plants, but it will thank its owner for the work that it blooms continuously from July to late autumn.

Similar to its Brazilian homeland, the princess flower needs a sunny and warm location in order to thrive. This should also be light, as the plant likes to shed its leaves when it is too dark. In addition, the place should be chosen sheltered from the wind, as strong gusts of wind are also not acceptable to the princess. If the Tibouchina is kept as a houseplant, it should get a place at the south window.
