Firethorn belongs to the pome fruit family and grows as a shrub or small tree. It is very easy on cutting, and since it regenerates very quickly after a cut, it is suitable for both cut hedges and free-growing hedges. However, it only unfolds its full splendor when it can grow unhindered as a single shrub. In May the plant is covered with many white so-called disc blossoms, which only form on perennial wood. This wood is heavily thorny and has many branches, so that it is almost impenetrable as a hedge.

As a substrate, potting soil or, as with many wild shrubs , very humus topsoil with added sand is suitable. Scatter the seeds in grooves a few centimeters apart and cover them with some soil. Keep the soil evenly moist and put a clear plastic bag over the container.
