Rosemary is one of the most versatile herbs in the garden. Fresh and dried, you can use it in cooking and baking, brewing tea or use for hair tonic, soaps and bath products. Also as a medicinal plant, it has proven itself and helps with many complaints. Rosmarinus officinalis was therefore chosen as the medicinal plant of the year in 2011. Incidentally, the botanical name is composed of the Latin words 'ros' (dew drops) and 'marinus' (sea). Translated, it means as much as "sea-dew".

Of course it is also possible to sow rosemary directly. The plants then grow very slowly. If you want to try anyway, sow the seeds in a bowl starting in March and cover them with half a centimeter of soil. Place the peel in a bright, warm place and make sure the soil stays moist. Rosemary needs temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius for it to develop. Patience is nevertheless required: the germination period is about four weeks.
