Although kiwis are often considered New Zealand's national fruit, their real home is in China. Only at the beginning of the 20th century, the Chinese ray pencil was cultivated in New Zealand and got there its common name today. The term "kiwi" was chosen for marketing reasons and is a reference to the New Zealand coat of arms bird kiwi, whose physique remotely reminds of the fruit of the Chinese ray pencil. The breeder Hayward Wright finally bred the variety "Hayward", which is still today the most commercially successful kiwi variety and is now cultivated worldwide.

A kiwi can be pulled by yourself. The rearing is even possible all year round. With proper care you get an aromatic fruit.
The kiwi (botanical actinidia) is a climber that can reach a stately size of up to ten meters. If the cultivation succeeds and the maintenance is correct, the plant also thrives in European latitudes.

Sowing of the kiwi seedlings can be done year-round, but kiwis need a lot of light and tend to grow quickly. Therefore, it is advisable to lay the sow in spring / early summer, so that the young seedlings can grow up with a sufficient supply of sunlight.
