The seeds of G. scabra must be stratified. To do this, mix the seeds with a slightly damp substrate (sand is wonderful), put it back in the bag in which you got the seeds and put it in the fridge for a good month. Then you can spread the sand together with the seeds thinly on the seed sowing filled seed pots. The seeds may only be minimally covered, so spread the mixture over a large area. After this treatment, germination is most reliable. G. scabra needs a constantly moist soil. If possible, the substrate should be sandy-loamy or gritty-loamy. The plant is hardy to about minus 30 ° C. Heat, however, is not well tolerated.
