The cherimoya is a heart-shaped, apple-sized fruit with a thin shell. The skin has a kind of scale pattern. Inside are many black kernels, the size of coffee beans, embedded in bright, soft flesh.
In the trade mostly unripe fruits are offered, which are to be recognized by a hard, green shell. The cherimoya is ready to eat when its skin is slightly blackish and gives way to light pressure.
To eat, cut the length of the cherimoya and remove the fruit stalk. The meat can be spooned out easily. Something annoying are the many cores inside. The flesh is creamy soft and tastes pleasantly aromatic, slightly tart after pineapple, pear or mango, slightly cinnamon.

    The compact, blackish seeds of the exotic fruits are planted in sterilized potting soil. The pots must be very warm and kept moist. At 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, the germination period is about one to three months. Young plants can not tolerate blazing sun, but still have to stand bright. Repotting is done after one to two years. Then your young cherimoya has a size of about 30 to 70 centimeters.
